Swimming

Year 3 pupils have swimming lessons at Hurst Pool with suitably qualified staff. This is tailored to their swimming ability and they have the opportunity to gain recognised swimming awards.

As a result of the pandemic and pupils not being able to fully participate in these lessons, during academic years 2021/22 and 2022/23, pupils from Years 3, 4 and 5 will have swimming lessons at Hurst Pool. 

Hurst Pool work to the National Governing Body for Swimming's (ASA) Learn to Swim Pathway in all their sessions, offering children seven stages of lessons to develop the skills needed for children to be competent, confident and safe in the water. 

From Year 6 (2021/22), 87% of pupils could swim competently/confidently/proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.  83% of pupils could swim competently/confidently/proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres using a range of strokes effectively.  63% had covered "performing safe self-rescue" as part of their swimming lessons at Hurst Pool or through private instruction. 

From Year 6 (2020/21), 90% of pupils could swim competently/confidently/proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres using a range of strokes effectively.  87% had covered "performing safe self-rescue" as part of their swimming lessons at Hurst Pool or through private instruction. 

From Year 6 (2019/20), 90% of pupils could swim competently/confidently/proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres using a range of strokes effectively.  80% of pupils had covered "performing safe self-rescue" as part of their swimming lessons at Hurst Pool. 

From Year 6 (2018/19), 93% of pupils could swim competently/confidently/proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres using a range of strokes effectively (January 2019).

From Year 6 (2017/18), 97% of pupils could swim competently/confidently/proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres using a range of strokes effectively.
