Music

At St Charles, we want to inspire our children to be creative and express themselves as they continue on their own musical journey. Our teaching aims to help them to develop the musical knowledge and skills they will need to progress. We ensure that we are meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum, providing opportunities for children to develop their musicianship through singing, listening, composing and performing, including opportunities for instrumental performance.

We follow the Charanga music scheme which provides an integrated, practical, exploratory and child-led approach to musical learning. Each unit of work (please refer to the table below) comprises the strands of musical learning which correspond with the national curriculum for music:

  1. Listening and Appraising
  2. Musical Activities
    1. Warm-up Games
    2. Optional Flexible Games
    3. Singing
    4. Playing instruments
    5. Improvisation
    6. Composition
  3. Performing
